A driver was left in critical condition following a series of crashes on the night of Saturday, August 30, 2025, in Southington and Cheshire, Connecticut. Authorities are investigating the incidents, which involved high-speed collisions, vehicle ejection, and significant damage.
The Initial Collision in Southington

The chain of events began at approximately 11:32 p.m. in Southington when police received a 911 call from a motorist reporting that their vehicle had been struck by a white 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe. The driver of the Tahoe did not stop but sped away heading toward Cheshire.
The initial crash occurred at the intersection of Knotter Drive and Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike (Route 322) in Southington, where the fleeing vehicle collided with the reported car.
The High-Speed Crash in Cheshire
The suspect vehicle was soon involved in another crash in Cheshire at West Johnson Avenue near street number 181. Investigators said the Tahoe was traveling at a high rate of speed before crossing the double yellow lines into oncoming traffic.
The vehicle then left the roadway, striking multiple trees on the north side of West Johnson Avenue before coming to rest back on the road. The impact caused the driver to be ejected from the vehicle, sustaining life-threatening injuries.
Emergency Response and Hospitalization
First responders, including Cheshire Police, Cheshire Fire Department, and Trinity Ambulance, arrived quickly on the scene. The driver was found unconscious and received medical attention at the site before being transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in critical condition, where they remain.
No other occupants were reported, and the driver was the sole occupant of the Tahoe.
Investigation and Public Appeal
The Southington Police Department is investigating the original collision, while the Cheshire Police Department is handling the crash scene in Cheshire. Due to the severity of the crash, the Naugatuck Valley Collision Investigation Team was called in to assist.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed either collision or saw the vehicle before or after the crashes to contact Officer Kevin Zaksewicz at 203-271-5541 or via email at kzaksewicz@cheshirect.gov.
Safety Concerns and Context
While the official cause of the crashes is still under investigation, preliminary reports suggest high speed as a critical factor. In related news, Southington police have indicated that alcohol may be a contributing factor in an early morning fiery crash on Main Street earlier that day.
The community is reminded of the dangers of reckless driving and impaired operation of vehicles, especially late at night when visibility is low and reaction times are slow.
Conclusion: Ongoing Investigation After Serious Crashes
The critical condition of the driver following the two serious crashes underscores the hazards of high-speed driving and the importance of law enforcement vigilance. Agencies continue to piece together the sequence of events leading to the collisions.
As investigations proceed, police hope to gather information that will provide clarity, ensure accountability, and enhance road safety for residents of Southington, Cheshire, and beyond.
